Penang – In celebration of Thaipusam, the Golden Chariot departed yesterday at 6:00 AM from the Queen Street Maha Mariamman Temple, while the Silver Chariot began its journey at 7:00 AM from the temple house on Penang Street.

Devotees followed both chariots along the route, performing Deepa Aradhana (ritual lamp offerings) and breaking coconuts as part of their prayers.

The Penang Hindu Endowment Board set up a water stall and provided Annadanam (free meals) to devotees. The board’s chairman, businessman Datuk Mariadas Gopal, extended his support for this noble cause, along with Datuk Devendran, chairman of the Bukit Mertajam Sri Sivan Muniswarar Varahi Amman Temple.

Also present at the Annadanam event was Datuk Seri Sundaraju Somu, a member of the Penang Housing and Environment Committee.
To ensure the smooth conduct of the chariot procession, ASP Kumar led security arrangements, providing safety for both the general public and devotees.

Foreign devotees also participated in the procession, carrying Kavadi, adding a vibrant and spiritual atmosphere to the event, making it a true symbol of Penang Thaipusam celebrations.
The Silver Chariot reached Datuk Keramat Road at 5:20 PM, where devotees performed coconut-breaking rituals and took part in Deepa Aradhana in large numbers.
